4 Taylor Swift Songs That Have An Important Message by Nuala G.

Taylor Swift is one of the most well-known singers in the world. She started her singing career in 2006 when she was 14. Swift has written 173 songs in total, but I picked four songs that share a deeper message for everyone. These four songs are about being confident in yourself and not letting negative people bring you down. Even if Taylor Swift is not a singer you like, you can read the lyrics because she is an amazing songwriter and writes about situations that we can relate to.

“I Forgot That You Existed” is about getting over the fact that someone no longer likes you and how great it feels after you move on from them. Sometimes friends don’t get along or a friendship ends and that hurts. Maybe you gave more to the relationship than the other person. But time helps, and it’s nice when sooner or later the sadness or anger changes to indifference.

“Mean” is about being confident in yourself and where you will go in your life, even if right now someone in your life is making you feel bad. This song says “someday, I'll be living in a big old city, and all you're ever gonna be is mean.” The future is bright, even if sometimes it’s hard to see it.

Swift writes a lot of songs about her own life, but in “You Need to Calm Down,” she writes from the perspective of someone who is LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning/queer). She wonders why people are hateful and loud and want to discriminate against the LGBTQ+ community. She thinks that the haters “need to calm down” and points out that “shade never made anybody less gay.”

“Shake it Off” is another song about confidence. In this song, Swift writes about people pointing out your flaws and criticizing you but she encourages you to “shake it off” and not listen to the haters. It’s an upbeat song, and the video is fun to watch because of all the different kinds of dancing.

Check out these 4 songs by Taylor Swift! In my opinion, Taylor Swift is a talented songwriter and singer and she has very important things to say about multiple topics. Lately, I’ve been listening to her latest album Folklore that was released earlier this year (July 2020).
