An Interview with Mr. Wehr, by Calvin C.

How long have you been at Julius West?

19 years.

Do you have beef with Mr. Wheeler and Social Studies?

No. I used to joke with a previous World Studies teacher about how math is more important than world studies. Now that he’s retired, Mr. Wheeler has taken the brunt of the jokes.

What classes do you teach?

I teach Honors Geometry, Algebra, Math 7 and 8, and AIM.

Why math?

It was always one of my best subjects in school.

Where did you go to college?

University of Delaware.

Previous teaching experience?

My first job after college was teaching middle school math for six months in Pennsylvania, which is where I grew up. Afterward, I was offered a full time job at the Parkland Magnet Middle School (Aspen Hill) for 5 years, then I transferred to JW.

What classroom shenanigans have you experienced while teaching?

Lot of middle school kids being middle school kids doing goofy things they think are funny but aren’t as so to adults.

Any wisdom for students?

Over my many years of teaching, the most successful students aren’t the smartest students, but the hardest working students.

Favorite food?

I’ll say steak, because no one else in my family eats it, so it’s a treat when I can get it.

Is cereal a soup

No.

PIneapple on pizza?

Um, I could say I’ve never tried it, but I’m not against it, so I don’t have a definitive answer.
