An Interview with Ms. Walker, by Mila B. and Sofija N.

Where did you go to college?

For undergraduate I went to the University of Delaware. I studied Elementary and Special Education. For my masters, I went to Johns Hopkins in School Counseling, and a post-masters degree in Political and Community Counseling.

What made you want to be a counselor?

When I was a teacher, I felt like I was helping kids socially and emotionally and I always looked up to my school counselor when I was little.


Why Julius West?

I’ve always wanted to work at JWMS, it has a very good reputation. And also I had a friend that worked here.


Did you ever think you were going to end up as a teacher?

In high school, I did a child development class and I knew that I wanted to be a teacher since I was little.


Where are you from? 

I grew up in Montgomery County.


When’s your birthday?

My birthday is June 6th.


What’s your favorite snack?

Cheese and Crackers (after a lot of deciding)


Do you have any siblings?

I have an older sister. Her name is Rachel who studied Social Work, so similar field.


Is cereal a soup?

That is a really hard question. I would say… I mean it has soup qualities, I’ve never really considered it. Sure it be a cold soup.


What do you like about our school?

I love that it’s a well oiled machine. Everything's in its place, teachers are happy to go to work, it is a positive school environment, there are a lot of opportunities to get in clubs, the administrators are always out helping staff, and we have really great students.


What’s your favorite animal?

I’m just gonna go with my old childhood favorite… Let’s say chimpanzee.


What’s your favorite color?

(Googles a color that she likes in the room) Carolina Blue.


What’s your preferred movie or tv show?

I enjoyed watching The Voice with my son.


What’s your favorite subject?

Social Studies.


How’s your first year here at Julius West so far? 

It’s been really incredible. I feel very happy to come to work each day.


Is there something that you really enjoyed here that you might want to share?

I like how the administrators are so friendly and helpful to me.


Are you friends with Ms. Burks?

I am friends with Ms. Burks. I think very highly of Ms. Burks.


What's your favorite book genre?

I like Autobiographies… I like a cozy mystery.


What’s your favorite thing inside your room?

I like my lava lamp, my plants, my fidgets.
