Interview with Ms. Robinson: Her (Strong) Opinions on Soup, and Other Things, by Sofija N. and Mila B.

Where did you go to college?

“I went to Spelman College.”


Where did you work before?

“I worked at Hallie Wells Middle School.”


Why did you decide to become a teacher?

“I found something when I was in 4th grade that said I wanted to be a teacher. I started teaching when I found a job that was supposed to help teachers.”


Why English?

“I minored in English in college. And I’ve been a writer my whole life.”


Why did you come to Julius West? 

“They offered me a job, I waited a day, and asked if I would have my own room, the principal said yes.”


What do you like best about our school?

“The staff is super supportive. It feels like you’re on a team, and the students.”


What’s your favorite color? 

“I think my favorite color is teal.”


Is cereal a soup? 

“No! Absolutely not! Who says it’s a soup?”


What’s your favorite animal?

“I’m gonna say dogs.”


Do you like insects?

“Not all of them, I like some of them.” 


We’ve noticed some eyes around your classroom and in your outfits. What is the significance of the eyes?

“It’s the idea that I’m watching my boundaries, it’s to keep my negativity away.” 


Besides English, what’s your favorite subject?

“History.” 


What’s your favorite of your tattoos? 

“The one on my calf that has octopus tentacles for hair.”


Why do you like henna? 

“It has a history behind it, I’m an artist, and it makes people happy.”


Do your nose rings get in the way?

“Rarely, if ever. Yeah, they don’t.”
