Last week, we interviewed the 6th grade OEE’s coordinator and 6th grade history teacher, Mrs. Serna on this year’s sessions!
Would you say that this year’s Outdoor Education session was better than last year?
I would say yes, this year’s session was smoother because the 6th grade team of teachers was more experienced. Every year that I coordinate, I get a little bit better at what I do.
What was the weather like there?
We were assigned for the fall and had our cold gear, but it was 70 to 80 degrees there.

Were any new activities added?
There were no new activities added to this session because we went so early in the school year, there was no time to plan anything new. But, we plan on making some changes as an entire team for future sessions.

Do you think that this year’s OEE session taking place at this time was more convenient?
Convenient for who? Not Mrs. Serna. It was very hectic to plan Outdoor Ed in the beginning of the school year all while getting 6th grade accustomed to middle school. However, I do think it is convenient for 6th graders to make new friends at Outdoor Ed at the beginning of the school year.

Any thanks to some specific people for making it happen?
I just want to thank all of the 6th grade staff members who helped with Outdoor Ed and attended the sessions. Also a huge thank you to all of the parent chaperones who volunteered their time to attend the program and to supervise the students in the cabin.

Did you feel that you had a good time?
Yes, I love Outdoor Ed and I love seeing the students without technology and out in nature. I always look forward to it every year, despite the hectic planning.
