Um yes, hello! It’s spooky lake month. And this is the article on spooky lakes. In this article we will be highlighting the coolest spooky lakes in the series. In this series Geo Rutherford talks about the most spooky lakes ever! So we picked out our 7 favorites for you.

#7: Cuyahoga River

This river caught on FIRE! The Cuyahoga River is a river in Ohio that caught fire more than 12 times! This river was so polluted with oil by the people in Ohio that it could catch fire with one single match stick. This river is now protected and it has been cleaned up but that's crazy. The spooky lake rubric states that this is 4/10 spookies.

#6: Lake Peigneur

This lake sucked things beneath the surface. There were some people drilling for oil here when they accidentally drilled into a nearby salt mine. This created a sinkhole swallowing everything in its path and flooding the salt mine. All the miners in the salt mine had to evacuate from an outdated mine shaft that took forever to work. They managed to get every one out alive but it was a close call. The spooky lake rubric states this is 5/10 spookies.

#5: Radium Springs

This spooky piece of hydrology is RADIO ACTIVE! Yes, radio active. Back in older times they used to think that radium would cure anything which was definitely not true and killed a bunch of people.  People still would come to swim and two divers came and tried to explore the cave. One of them left after a while but the other one stayed. They eventually found his corpse the next day after swimming over him while searching the day before. They hadn't seen him because of all the dust that got kicked up in the original dive. The spooky lake rubric states, this is 7/10 spookies.

#4: Skeleton Lake (Lake Roop Kund)

This lake in India has random human bones! It’s a graveyard for random people. Skeleton Lake is a lake in India that has over 500 hundred unrelated bones. None of them have even one single relation. Researchers think that they died of freezing but the research is inconclusive due to tourists bringing the bones home! The spooky lake rubric states this is 8/10 spookies.

#3: Lake Baikal

This lake has a legend that Russian soldiers dropped pure gold into the water. This myth has already been busted but some people still believe it. This is the oldest, deepest, and spookiest lake. Many people have jumped in here and never returned. But what do you think, is there pure gold under these deep depths? Or is it just a really spooky natural phenomenon? The spooky lake rubric states this is 9/10 spookies.

#2: Yellowstone Hot Springs

Don't even think about it– STAY AWAY! These hot springs may look beautiful and inviting, but just a minute here can cause severe burns and could lead to death. One example is when a grad student and his sister were looking for a safe hot spring to swim in when the grad student slipped and fell into a hot spring. His sister stood helpless as he was burning in boiling acid. They couldn't even get his remains due to a thunder storm that had happened a bit before. The spooky lake rubric states that this is 10/10 spookies.

#1: Lake Nyos

This is the ultimate spooky lake. This lake lives inside of a volcano and it had a secret lying inside. This lake had carbon dioxide underneath the surface of the lake and it exploded into the nearby town and suffocated the people, animals, and even bugs. A while after they found the town and everything in it, undisturbed. The spooky lake rubric states this is 10/10 spookies.
